2018-2019 | News & Updates
2019 marked our first official Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Surrey Reformed Baptist Church (SRBC)! At this meeting, open to members and regular attenders, we were encouraged by a recollection of (i) SRBC’s history and God’s faithfulness since 2016 (and prior); (ii) a presentation of the financial statements and a 2019 Budget; (iii) a general overview of church affairs. We are very thankful for all the Lord is doing!
In October 2018 Surrey Reformed Baptist Church officially constituted. We praise God for His goodness in establishing another local church for His glory and the furtherance of His Gospel!
Going back a little further still, 2018 marked the official commencement of Surrey Reformed Baptist Church (SRBC)! Sunday Services started in January 2018 alongside our Tuesday weekly Prayer & Bible Study, all held at Rosemary Heights Elementary School.
By way of brief background, our pastor Mike Kirkpatrick, was ordained to the gospel ministry in November 2017 by our planting church, Free Grace Baptist Church (FGBC). Pastor Mike has been thoroughly vetted by FGBC and comes as one recognized by FGBC through years of interaction and study under the mentorship of Pastor Jim Butler.
Our first Sunday Services were on January 21, 2018 with many visitors in attendance including several that have stayed with SRBC since those first services.
We continue to meet at Rosemary Heights Elementary, which is located in a prime location near a neighborhood and relatively close to neighboring cities. This has already been a blessing as many people have attended from those surrounding cities. Since we do not have our own building, the core group comes faithfully each Sunday to set up and tear down. Lord willing, in the future we will have a permanent location. At this point, we are focused on further establishing SRBC by continually and faithfully preaching the whole counsel of God, which is seen in our weekly services.
We have an 11am service and a 5pm service on the Lord’s Day. Since services began several months ago, Pastor Mike has preached through Philippians in the morning, which he has recently completed. He is now working through the book of Galatians. In the evening, Pastor Mike completed a series on the Messianic Psalms and has since been teaching on the life of Abraham.
We also continue to have prayer and Bible study on Tuesday evenings where Pastor Mike has been teaching through the book of Acts. We have a prayer on Sunday mornings as well. For those who have followed us, this is the same “Tuesday study” that Pastor Mike lead in the fall of 2017 as he went through a series on the doctrine of Salvation and another one that focused on Reformed Distinctives. Sermons and Bible studies are posted on our Sermon Audio page if you wish to have a listen.
On another note, our social media pages continue to be valuable avenues of spreading the word with several volunteers who focus on providing thoughtful and aesthetically pleasing posts throughout 2018.
SRBC has also done door-to-door evangelism in the surrounding neighborhood throughout 2018 and plans to continue this in the future. Below is a 2-sided brochure we hand out, or leave at the door if no one is home:
We praise God for His goodness in edifying the saints, saving sinners, and ultimately glorifying himself through the preaching of His glorious gospel. Please be in prayer for our Pastor and for SRBC and be sure to visit soon!
“…that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, and being conformed to His death.” Philippians 3:8b-10
